		<description>I had the same experience at my parents house not to long ago. I was leaving the house and the phone rang, but as you described in a manner not normal to our landline. I ran back and picked up the phone and heard a dial tone like you mentioned and then started hearing people answering other phones as if they were getting a call from me or someone else and I was listening in to their response. Some people would say hello a few times reiterating it with more urgency...other times it was as if a conversation was going on but I couldn&#039;t ever make out the dialouge, and other times it was the please hang up and dial your operator message. It was probably the most interesting sound I have ever heard, I study sound design at college and honestly had a hard time hanging up, I tried to record some of it with my phone even but it didn&#039;t turn out. 

Just thought I&#039;d share the experience with you because it truly was very odd and interesting.
