ENCHANTED HIGHWAY - PROJECT DESCRIPTION
(The text below is copied verbatim from information posted at the site of the Enchanted Highway. Typos and grammatical errors are left as they appear on the original.)

The Enchanted Highway. Regent, North Dakota. ENCHANTED HIGHWAY will make the county highway from Gladstone to Regent a tourist attraction. It will be a unique project depicting historical and artistic scenes. ENCHANTED HIGHWAY INC., will create ten art exhibits along this highway, one every three miles. The exhibits will be contructed by local people from each of the three communities of Regent, Lefor, and Gladstone.

These exhibits will attract the public and display western North Dakota rural art. Access to the sites will be free of charge to the public. Tourists will have the opportunity to stop, rest at the developed picnic area, and view the exhibits. Each exhibit will be placed on a two acre piece of land and each site will have an access driveway and parking area.

Other exhibits have been proposed and designs are currently being examined by the NDSU Division of Fine Arts to determine their artistic value. The designs being examined for future sites are, the Pheasant Family, the Grasshopper, the Eagle, the Deer and the Whirligig.

This project along with the construction of the exhibits will consist of constructing bulletin boards and picnic tables by the Regent High School shop classes.

In the future an audio sound system will be installed within some of the exhibits and within some of the bulletin boards. Each site will have a different recorded message which will be activated by pulling a string or pushing a button. Lighting capabilities for each site will also be developed.

This project will promote tourism in North Dakota and increase traffic and trade in the towns of Regent, Lefor, and Gladstone. Tourism will benefit each of these communities as well as other towns in southwestern North Dakota, as tourists will patronize the local businesses. This project will provide an outlet for artistic expression for the people involved in implementing the project and it will be an opportunity for the people viewing the exhibits to view unique western North Dakota artwork and western North Dakota scenery.
