Most easily reached via the Q60 bus from Manhattan. The Q60 stops right at the Queens Boulevard entrance.

Maple Grove comprises 2 distinct sections. Monumental Park was established in 1875 in the Rural Cemetery style. Memorial Park was designed in the twentieth century style, and is characterized by in-ground markers made of bronze or other metal.

The grounds are also characterized by numerous works of art produced by students of the nearby school (PS99) and by other community artists and organizations. I was interested in Kheimon, the Greek Goddess of Winter, the Guardian Gargoyle for Peace Project and other works located throughout the grounds.

Maple Grove is the first New York cemetery I remember visiting. It was in August, 2001, for the funeral of my friend Don Garvelmann.
