Gerard stone-coated steel roofing tiles and shakes are lightweight, durable, fire retardant, and wind resistant.� At only 1.4 pounds per square foot, Gerard roofing panels are among the lightest roofing materials available anywhere.� Although this specification assumes new construction, Gerard roofing can be installed over existing shingle or shake roofs.

PART 1� GENERAL

1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE

 

��� A.� Installer: �A company acceptable to roofing manufacturer and with not less than 3 years of experience in installing roofing similar in type and scope to that���� required for this project.

 

1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

 

��� A.� Comply with provisions of Section 01600.

 

��� B.� Deliver roofing panels and accessories to project site in original packaging.

 

��� C.� Store products under cover until installation.

 

1.6 WARRANTY

 

��� A.� Comply with provisions of Section 01700.

Note:� Institutional, commercial, co-op and corporate owned buildings are covered by a 50-year warranty.� See Gerard warranty form for additional details.

��� B.� Manufacturer's Warranty:� Submit manufacturer's standard lifetime limited warranty, including 20 year limited warranty against hail damage, surface coating degradation, and 120 mph winds.

 

1.7 MAINTENANCE MATERIALS

��� B.� Provide one unopened package of roofing panels for Owner's use in building maintenance at completion of project.

2.1 MANUFACTURER

2.2 STEEL ROOFING TILES

 

��� A.� Panels mechanically power pressed from steel sheet to form interlocking units with profile simulating clay roofing tiles.

������� 1.� Base Material:� Nominal 0.0195 inch thick steel sheet, G-90 galvanized.

������� 2.� Base Material:� Nominal 0.0195 inch thick steel sheet with Galvalume (R) coating.

������� 3.� Weight per Square:� 132 pounds.

������� 4.� Exposed Dimensions:� 43-3/4 inches by 14-1/2 inches.

������� 5.� Finish Coating:� Primer both sides, exposed surface coated with styrene acrylic resin and crushed stone chips, then a clear acrylic over-glaze.

��� E.� Miscellaneous Flashing Components:� Provide flashing and sheet metal accessories of not less than 28 gage steel to shapes shown on the drawings, finished to match roofing panels except as otherwise indicated.

 

��� F.� Reinforced Underlayment:� Self-supporting nylon- or fiberglass-reinforced water repellent building paper.

Retain above underlayment for open rafters or trusses;� retain type below for installation over solid substrate.

��� G.� Underlayment:� No. 30 non-perforated asphalt saturated felt.

 

��� H.� Sealants:� One-part polyurethane type, as recommended by roofing panel manufacturer.

 

��� I.� Wood Battens:� As specified in Section 06114.

 

��� J.� Wood Battens:� 2 by 2 nominal, standard grade or better.

 

��� K.� Steel Battens:� Galvanized steel channels, not less than 22 gage and 1-1/2 inches high.

 

��� L.� Fasteners:� Galvanized nails or screws as recommended by roofing manufacturer for specific applications.

 

 

PART 3� EXECUTION

 

3.1 EXAMINATION

 

��� A.� Verify that roofing substrate is in proper condition to receive metal roofing panel system.

 

��� B.� Verify that roof penetrations are in place and have been properly flashed.

 

��� C.� Verify that skylights, hatches, and similar openings have been temporarily secured, allowing for final flashing during roofing installation.

 

��� D.� Do not proceed with roofing installation until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

 

3.2 BATTEN INSTALLATION

 

��� A.� Install reinforced underlayment over open rafters or trusses, tacking in place until battens are installed.

Delete paragraph above or below.

��� B.� Install underlayment over solid substrate, tacking in place until battens are installed.

 

��� C.� Install battens in accordance with roofing panel manufacturer's instructions, starting at roof edge and spacing at 14-1/2 inches.

 

��� D.� Secure wood battens with 16d vinyl sinkers or equivalent power driven nails.

 

��� E.� Secure metal battens with 3/4 inch Tek fasteners, or equivalent.

 

3.3 ROOFING INSTALLATION

 

��� A.� Install valley flashings, z-flashings, and other accessory items in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and SMACNA standards.

 

��� B.� Install roofing panels in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.

 

��� C.� At hips and valleys, measure, cut, and bend panels carefully to assure proper fit.� Install ridge and hip trim to provide weathertight closure.

 

3.4 ADJUSTING AND CLEANING

 

��� A.� Touch up areas of roofing where mineral coating has been abraded, using paint kit supplied by manufacturer to match roofing.

 

��� B.� At completion of the roofing work, remove debris caused by roofing installation from the site and properly dispose of it.

 

3.5 PROTECTION

 

��� A.� Comply with provisions of Section 01500.

 

��� B.� Do not permit roof traffic after installation of roofing.
