1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE

�� A.� Installer Qualifications:

�� 1.� Installer shall be a firm experienced in the maple flooring field and approved by the manufacturer.

�� 2.� Installer shall have attended and received a passing grade from a certified manufacturer's installation school.

�� 3.� Installer shall submit to the flooring manufacturer the manufacturer's required documentation forms.� The documentation shall include concrete inspection, delivery and storage of materials, and daily installation reports.

1.6 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

�� A.� Store products indoors and protect from moisture, construction traffic, and damage.

�� B.� Do not deliver or install materials until:

�� 1.� Masonry, painting, plastering, tile work, marble, and terrazzo work are completed.�

�� 2.� Overhead work including installation of mechanical work lighting, backstops, scoreboards, etc. is completed.

�� 3.� Building is enclosed and weathertight.�

�� C.� Permanent HVAC system shall have been installed and shall operate before, during, and after installation, maintaining a temperature range of 55 to 78 degrees and relative humidity of between 35 and 50 percent.

1.7 WARRANTY

�� A.� The manufacturer's guarantee shall not cover damage caused in whole or in part by casual, ordinary wear and tear, abuse, use for which material is not designed, faulty construction of the building, settlement of the building walls, failure of the other contractors to adhere to specifications, separation of the concrete slab and excessive dryness or excessive moisture from humidity, spillage, migration through the slab or wall or any other source.

�� B.� Manufacturer shall warrant the flooring materials to be free from manufacturing defects for a period of 1 year from the date of substantial completion.� The installer shall warrant the installation to be free from defects for the same period.

�� A.� Concrete Subfloor:�

�� 1.� Verify that subfloor is completed, free of dirt, dust, debris, grease, or other contaminants.

�� 2.� Verify that subfloor has a smooth troweled finish.

�� 3.� Verify that subfloor is flat to a tolerance of 1/8 inch measured with a 10-foot straightedge.

�� 4.� Verify that subfloor has cured at least 60 days.

�� 5.� Verify that depression depth complies with manufacturer's recommendation.

3.2 INSTALLATION

�� A.� Install vapor barrier over entire concrete slab lapping joints 6 inches and sealing with duct tape.

�� B.� Cover entire slab with foam underlayment, and seal with duct tape.

�� C.� Install first layer of 1 x 6 subfloor diagonally to the long dimension of the room at a 25 degree angle.�

�� 1.� The ends of the 1 x 6 shall be butted and side spaced on an average 6 inches between adjoining 1 x 6.

�� 2.� Provide 2-inch expansion voids at the perimeter and all vertical obstructions.

�� D.� The second layer of 1 x 6 shall be laid in the opposite direction to the first layer but also at a 25 degree angle to the long dimension of the room so that no end joints will fall over an end joint of the first layer.

�� 1.� The ends of the second layer shall be butted and the side spaced approximately 2 inches between adjoining 1 x 6 and secured to the first layer with nails or staples at each intersection.�

�� 2.� Provide 2 inches expansion at all walls and permanent obstructions.

�� 3.� Install a single 1 x 6 border strip as part of the second layer of subflooring at the perimeter of the floor.

3.7 PROTECTION

�� A.� Do not allow traffic of any kind on completed floors - whether foot or wheeled vehicle, without the express approval of the Architect.

�� 1.� Provide heavy kraft protection paper, secured against displacement, for occasional and essential foot traffic.

�� B.� Provide continuous, 24-hour-per-day climate control (heating, air conditioning, and ventilation) during installation and after flooring completion, and until Substantial Completion and acceptance by the Owner.

�� 1.� Maintain ambient temperature and relative humidity within the requirements specified under Delivery, Storage, and Handling, above.
