An Irrelevant Aside

Since.

Some nights I get hung up on individual words.

Once, in high school, the word of the day was "group." I called all my friends and any time they started talking I would interrupt just so I could keep saying the word "group."

Man, were they pissed.

Group.

Another time it was "DANCEHOST."

And then simply "HOST."

Host.

Host.

Host.

So tonight, the word is "Since." Particularly, that expression businesses use: "Since 1911."

I've been bringing it to you since 1968, and we're going strong.

First started noticing this nonsense several years ago, in 1989, when driving past an auto-mechanic whose sign read "Since 1985." I felt proud to have been around to say that I had witnessed the rise of this fine auto mechanic establishment.
