Had this dream last night in which I received a rejection letter from a job I applied for three years ago. It was a job at a music publishing company here in New York, and the letter read:

Thedr Prsst ;pulbish.,, 1996
Mock,
"th compayn has hired sumwun frm ur area and luookhs forwrd to continewed grwth!"

I'm reasonably certain of the spelling and everything, because I woke up laughing so hard I couldn't get back to sleep, and I came over to this desk to type it in.

Then again, I don't suppose spelling is all that important in this case.

I did in fact apply for a job at a certain music publishing company, and after the interview I heard nothing for several weeks.

Then, about a month later, I got a letter saying that the selection process was still going on, and that I would hear from them soon. No other correspondence occurred, and I might have forgotten the whole thing except that a full year later I got another letter from them saying "our selection process is not yet complete, we regret the delay..." and they said I'd hear from them soon.

That was 3 or 4 years ago, and I wonder if someday I'll get correspondence from them again, explaining to me that they've been positively agonizing over this decision, but that they expect closure within the generation.

I think that before going to sleep last night I may have recalled a particular job I never got at ASCAP from someone who started the job interview by saying "Now, I'm just gonna ax you a few questions," and one of those questions was "You's familiar with typing, right? You got typing?"

Ah well, I still wake up each day and wonder just who runs this world. Certainly not anyone I know.
