postal materielle, both philosophical and physical, seems to be following me around lately. a few weeks ago i had the odd experience of deciding what to do with an envelope handed to me by a perfect stranger. is still have that envelope, by the way, and am yet to write about the dilemmas this encounter produced in my easily-distracted mind.
today, in my post office box, i received an envelope from Melody Berrington, in Bethleham, Alabama. it was addressed to the Disney Adventurees/ABC Morning Roundups Sweepstakes, at P.O. Box 181, Madison Square Station, New York, NY 10159-0181. My po box address, of course, is 181, but it is not in the Madison Square Station, it is in the Rockefeller Center Station, zip code 10185-0002.
What do to with this item? I don't know. Assuming it is an actual sweepstakes entry, i could forward the item along to the proper address and be done with it. But it appears, on closer inspection, to be a hand-written note, not a form or any normal kind of an entry blank. In fact, it appears to be much more than the sender's address hand-written on a small card. the handwriting appears to be haphazard and very jagged, with things crossed out and several lines of text all crunched together. I hope it is not a cry for help, or a desperate plea for salvation, or a love-letter or suicide note accidentally sent to the sweepstakes address.
What I want to do first, before mailing this thing along, is learn more about this so-called Disney Adventures/ABC Morning Roundup Sweepstakes. Melody may well be a bristle of fuzz off the staticky backside of the dark and desperate conspiracy which clutches the earth to its core, and i am not going to let my exposure to such an opportunity pass me by.
