- I just had to tell ya'll what happened to me today.
I came home from a wonderful shopping trip. Sexy underwear, a new dress, and some shoes. It was fun gadding about town all by myself.
It is very hot here lately, so I went to go check on my bunny. Change the water, put cold water on a towel that I cover half the cage with. I step outside...and there's a cornacopia of wildlife ten feet in front of me! Four large turkeys, six baby turkeys, one doe, and one fawn. All eating my garden. I just said "Oh my." and stood there and watched them. They dispersed slowly when they saw me.
And I live in the city limits. People give me a hard time about being a "city girl."
We have a doe and three, yes three, fawns bedding down about 50 feet up our hill. They are cute.

i fucked up and erased the new messages log. and haven't backed it up since Tuesday, July 20, 1999 - 01:37 pm.
none of the messages were erased, just the little thing that checks for new messages. this is such a complicated world.
i fell down the stairs today at 7:00 in the morning at the canal street/chinatown N/R station. suddenly the steps became really narrow and mildewy and wet, and at the same time i was distracted by the site at the bottom of the steps of a filthy, abandoned baby carriage. i almost broke my ass, scratched the hell out of my right hand, and bruised the crap out of my ribs. oh my god, how can someone as good and pure as i endure such hardship?
the baby carriage reminded me of a friend from college who planned a trip to europe, and talked about it for months in advance announcing to all that this trip would change his life. he made the trip, and came back convinced that his life had been changed. that this was it. nothing would ever be the same. i'm not sure what he had in mind, but he seemed like the exact same tiny fuck he'd always been.
after he got back he told only 2 stories. the second one i can not recall right now, but the first one was of a woman in a subway station in vienna holding a plastic doll to her breast and singing to it like it was alive.
i never believe it when someone tells me their life has been changed, or that something about their life is just fan-fucking-tastic, or that anyone anywhere gives a crap about any goddam thing. i never did anyway, but this individual has always been my case in point.
i am trying to save money for a second piano, a petrof P131 55" console thriller, but don't think i will make it to $13,000 cash by december with credit card and student loan debt as it is right now and probably always will be, forever and ever, amen. That's $8,000 for the piano (it will be on sale in December) and $5,000 for everything else. never mind what "everything else" is. i've been buying piano music by the buttload the past few weeks.
and speaking of which, i'm still annoyed at losing my samuel barber piano concerto/symphony #1 john browning/leonard slatkin cd. it's not really lost, it was misplaced into one of my CD boxes, no idea which one, but when i placed it into that box it was because i could not find the correct box and i was as drunk then as now and i knowingly said "i'll just put this one in here right now and remember where i put it later."
well all right, then. i have "seven steps to heaven" on the cd player and, we must assume, other things to be doing with my precious time on this earth. i got to work several hours early today, and this afternoon there passed over my person several non-refundable hours of life, all of which i squandered.

I decided to cash a 19-year-old savings certificate today in order to help pay for this coming simester at college. Its origional worth was $100 but it's matured 7 times, so it should be worth considerably more than that. It was set up by my mother in Havre, MT two months after I was born. A bank by the name on the Certificate no longer exhists, thanks to all the bank renaming and consolidating going on. The origional bank name was First National Bank (of Havre).
I thought origionally that it was US bank who bought them, so I called to check the value of my Certificate. No records. I decided to bring it to them and make sure. They told me that they used to be "First Bank" but never "First National Bank" Must be the wrong bank. Talked to my own bank and had them call around... after an hour they returned my call, saying that US bank bought them, Definately and for sure. I went back to US bank and told them what I was told. The nice lady wandered back and talked to lots of various people... They came back with a phone number saying that it might have been turned over to the government and to call them there.
I called.
No records.
Where do I go from here?
All I have is a name and PO box of a bank that existed almost 20 years ago, and a certificate that is supposed to be worth money.

then hang up. you should feel calmer.
now call the Havre, MT chamber of commerce. Tell them your story. They'll tell you who bought the bank.

-tribute to jimi hendrix
-tribute to the grateful dead
-peter frampton live
i have no idea where those discs came from, but they're there nonetheless.
back when i did analog i used to find mystery tapes in my collection on a regular basis. the best mystery find was a maxell XLII90 with peter tosh live in LA on one side and linton kwesi johnson on the other.
also found a babatunde olatunji:drums of passion tape with both versions on it.
freshman year of college. 9 months of serendipity.
the one i'm thinking of right now is a live recording of suzanne vega at the london school of economics. i pretty much hate suzanne vega and anything that sounds remotely like her, but i still carried that tape around in my collection for years. i remember being drunk in the attic after breaking up with my girlfriend and putting that tape in my machine for the first time.
hit "play" and heard:
"my heart is broken, it's worn out at the knees"
took the tape out of the machine and literally threw it out the window.
tape showed up on my nightstand the next morning. i guess my mom could have found it in the backyard and brought it up while i was still passed out, but that incident always struck me as being disturbingly bizarre.
i used to have over a hundred or cassettes. now i have about fifteen leftover stragglers. shuffling through them i only recognize about three.
mystery tapes.
i'll be thinking about this for months now.

i don't have an air tank at my apartment, so i take a folding metal chair over to a gas station. i park my car off to the side and set up the chair next to the air hose, transfer onto the chair, and change the wheels out there.
so this story isn't an utter waste of your time, here's a helpful hint. wheelchair wheels are pretty much like bike wheels. i've found that a great tool for removing tire and tube is one of those styling brushes women always have - with the spoon-shaped, flat, curved handle. deflate the tire, hook the handle under the tire so it comes out the other end, and pull it along the edge of the wheel. comes right off.

my acid projects seem to always end up huge. i get drunk and drool lyric all over them, or get baked out of my mind and tinkle keys in random yet pleasing ways. i end up with projects that even my machine can't handle. i have to mix down to two tracks just to listen to the thing.
kaya has fluffed his head up. he has an elvi-pompador. little man is soaked because he kept fucking up. he hops up on the kitchen counters and the "Water From Heaven" convinces him of his folly. he hops up on the dinner table and the "Water From Heaven" blows him back to the ground. sometimes he just doesn't make the connection. it always seems to be those days where the sun is hot and there is a comfortable place on the deck for the little orange tabby to sleep and dry. maybe i just don't make the connection.
nica is fatter than ever. the kitten (and more specifically, the kitten food,) has added about 5 lbs to my already large kitty. i wouldn't mind except for her health. it's great having a huge, ultra-soft, tortiseshell lying on your chest on a cold night.
the needle nose gar and ghost knife are silently hunting guppies. this morning, looking through the tank, i saw a lot of fish i haven't seen recently. there is this super buff bumble-bee goby, he's been through a lot. he usualy is out of sight, but today he was kicking it out front. this fat catfish i call wetnica (he's the same colors as nica.) he's almost always hidden, but i got a glimpse. the banjo cat was only half submerged in the sand, another rare sight.
prince and princess, my gay firebellied toads, have been actively plugging each other lately. must be the heat.
