it came on at 3:20 a.m. on a wednesday, and i only caught one. it began with the ramones, then went to an upsetter's song, some french song, a scratchy vinyl version of dylan doing "corinna corinna", and a techno/reggae tune from manchester or someplace. there was probably a little more than that, but i can't remember now.

in order to pick up my racing number for the Great Aloha Run tomorrow morning, i had to walk through the giant health expo at the blaisdell exhibition hall.
i passed the HerbaLife booth and they were offering a free body composition analysis. it was like being *dared* to have my fat calculated, and i've been so cockly lately about my muscles. flex flex flex. especially since i had just gotten back from paddling practice and was feeling particularly buff.
so they used this laser thingie. who knows what the fuck it was really. it looked like a remote control, but with only one button. or maybe like a palm pilot. the lady told me to sit and relax. she pushed the little black box against my bicep and clicked the button. she wrote the number down on a piece of paper, handed it to me, and sent me over to Brad for his expert interpretation of my reading, using a little hand-held rotating chart.
the good news is that the laser thingie didn't hurt, Brad was really cute, and when i told him how much weight i lost since last april, he didn't bother trying to sell me any HerbaLife products.
the bad news is that i'm a still a fat ass.

I always thought, body fat % be damned, it's how you LOOK and FEEL that counts.
I mean, if you can see your muscles ripple, if you can see your abs at all, your body fat is probably right where you want it.
However, It's a good measurement to have for comparison's sake.

However, looking in the mirror and saying to yourself "There'a absolutly no excuse for looking like that, when you know perfectly well how to look damn good" does wonders for re-inspiring you.

It's weird. I feel like I should be accomplishing something. I didn't feel that way last year when I slept this late every day.
Getting up early every day is a new concept for me. It makes my days longer, but my weeks shorter. I feel as though something is just escaping my grasp.

- thinking california is the most beautiful after the rains. More rain is on the way.I welcome it. After nearly three years here, it's all still new. The rain is no differrnt, however, when it clears, many things are a little differnt than where i am from. The wind kicks up, the air gets crisp, your lips crack. It's been rather cool, the mountians got dumped with snow. What a beautiful site, driving around, seeing the snow caps in the back ground. this is so NEW to me, what a sight!!!! Seeing the LA river, the usually drab, boring dull, concrete lined river bed with random graffiti, and a little trickle of water, gush with literally x20 the water. the one tag i see driving to school on the 5 that parallels the river, "RAMONE" and some squiggly marks i cant replicate......the water has taken the existance of Ramone and his band of merry tags down stream.....the water just rages. The clouds whips and fly by at amazing speeds. the view from the office extends to the ocean. the reption of jets taking off from LAX hypnotizes me. Trying to calculate exactly when the sun will hit the hard metal body of the jets to give off that split second reflection.the sunsets, under these conditions, from this vantage point are amazing. It's all still new. I am wanting to take away up to Mount Pinos, elevation, roughly 8k. However I don't have chains, but the hike to the peak is surreal....the view from atop stunning, looking over the San Joaquin valley, the long flatlands, the california Aquaduct barely visable.....the 5 freeway like a scratch on glass........such beauty and peace are only about 20-30 miles away. Why am I here? now?
