The media are giving conflicting figures and are silent on this subject. was at the office in DC when news broke. we then started hearing rumors that bombs had blown at the Labor Dept and the Old Executive Office Building in DC. security began running through our building ( a DC government building) shouting for people to drop everything and leave immediately.

I truly never was scared for my safety until I heard about, and saw smoke, from the Pentagon.

easily the most terrifying experience, moreso than being mugged.

I hope all my friends and all NYCers in general are physically ok. Mentally, will take some time for us all.

I am hoping someone will tell me soon that the only people I know directly affected are the ones I already know about. I had to call a bunch of clients in NYC yesterday to check in, and it was strange to have to tell the real people than answered that we were in New Mexico and we just wanted to make sure they were all o.k. And there were the ones who had the voice mail up and weren't answering -- we took consolation in the fact that someone was able to get the voice mail message going, so that's good news...right? But then there were the ones we didn't even try to call. They had offices on the 85th floor of the WTC1. We got the miracle contact from a guy who worked their...he had missed his train, he was calling everyone he knew to tell them he was still alive. He did not say about the others because nothing could be known for sure. But it did not look good, it does not look good. I am unable to stop watching television even though the things I am seeing make me need to puke. Every time I see Rudy Giuliani I think 'well, he may be a bastard and evil to the homeless and everything else, but look how heartsick he is...listen to the things he is saying....' My friend Adrienne said 'those people were US. They just went to work in the morning, like US.' Things like this have a tendency to render any forceful mandate popular and concentrate power in the executive branch. I was raised by military parents, and I thought the Pentagon would be unimpacted by a direct hit from thermonuclear warheads. I wish people would leave the millions of islamic worshippers alone, the millions of people of arab descent alone. The guy at the grocery store did not do this.

Just got some great news. From our firm on the 85th floor of 1 WTC -- at this point only 2 people are unaccounted for. We had another firm on the 89th floor, same bldg, and they are all accounted for.
