Listening to Stacey Peralta talk on the radio.
He makes some awesome points about skateboarding, of which im so grateful i got into.
Its purely American, moreover Californian, born in a time when people thought Californians were culturally empty, being being sandwiched between the desert and the sea. The wash-out of the hippy era.
Learning that there were two of the biggest droughts in 100 years in the 70s, in CA, which led to dry drains, and empty pools.
Realizing how liberating of a sport it is. The movement. Requiring very little...just some concrete, brick or asphalt. Surfing and snowboarding require snow and water.
The ingenuity involved at how skaters look at architecture.Redefining.
The influence on surfing and snowboarding in terms of tricks.
The culture. The hair and clothing styles. Most of all, the music.
Reminiscing. I skated for about 7 years. the only thing that expedited my stopping was moving to a house in the woods with no concrete within a 1/4 to 1/2 mile.
Remembering the distances I covered, the freedom I felt...the bruises, scrapes and breaks i suffered.
Looking at my barely visable scars.
Most of all, recalling my resiliancy. In particular one incident in which I was flying down a hill, on my belly, head first. Hitting a small pothole and sliding 15-20 feet. Ripped clothes and mnore blood than ive ever seen spill from me. Road rash. Skating home to get bandaged up and go at it again.
Fracturing my ankle, only because i didn't let a sprain heal long enough.
Remembering the certain spots I would skate constantly, daily. Being chased by cops, mall security and authority figures in general.
Remembering the people I came across and the instant bond.
Yeah Im looking forward to this movie, even though I came to skating 10+ years after the official birth, i still know them all, even skated on some of their boards.

2 out of 3 walls in the dining room are done, though I might go back for a second coat. I love this green, a little bit brighter than I thought it would be but that's just fine. This place needed some serious color.
I am so excited. I am loving the change this place needed.
I can't wait to finish, but then I don't have anyone to show it off to.

Clearly though the bank failed on several fronts...to recognize the 'check' he cashed to get money out was a check number that cleared some 3 years ago. Red FLag #1...the signature was clearly not either one of ours... Red Flag #2 the address on the deposit slip was wrong, and should have been verified. Had a great time.
Friday night we went to
a Rumanian bar called
Hot Shots. They had a
weird act there,
consisting of two
Rumanian guys, one
on keys and one with
an accordian, and two
Rumanian girls, who
switched off on vocal
duties. For $20, you
could have the
pleasure of one of hte
Rumanian girls sing
directly to you. Then we
went to a Croatian bar
and had homemade
Slivowitc (sp?). Good
lord was I drunk. The
next day we went and
had mexican food for
breakfast and
recovered. We watched
Black Cat, White Cat
(highly recommend
that) and Tank Girl. My
friend Kiko is in love
with Tank Girl.
That night was the
party. We had a keg of
Leinenkugel and
bottles of vodka which
had black licorice
soaking in it, and this
sugar cane liquor from
Brazil pronounced ka-
cha-sa. Some guy from
Palestine brought
Night Train. Old Style
was present as well.
U. S. citizens were a
minority at this party,
with folks from Peru,
Bolivia, Brazil, Poland,
Palestine, India,
Rumania, Bulgaria,
Finland and Ukraine.
We didn't go to be unto
four am, when the
Finns finally stopped
singing and playing
accordions.
We went to see the
Cubs play the next day,
but left after a Brewers'
grand slam in the 7th.
that was a great
weekend.
last night, I made a sitr
fry for Elizabeth, with
potatoes, yams, tofu,
roasted garlic, snow
peas, green and red
peppers, and curry. It
was good. After dinner
was better for a large
number of reasons.

- Today
Today the training wheels came off of
my unicycle.
My life scraped against a cheese grater
in reverse,
shreddings re-solidifying to slab.
Mind spinning, roulette wheel ticking,
I cry out from the edge
for the little, damn ball to stop,
any slot will do.
Polaroid blur steadily disclosed
the definition of my face.
I realized I am not being witnessed
by giggling clusters of 2nd graders
clenching cold bars,
which comprise my small cage
at the city zoo.
Not alone either though,
like an old, forgotten widow,
who was left with the estate.
But the sudden company of another
no longer hardens my organs,
or dangles like little anchors
from my porous skin.
I arrive into this evening
the first day of kindergarten,
my parents drive the car,
drop me at the curb,
instruct me towards the red door
to enter
the quiet education of the self.

- also belatedly wishing Sem a happy birthday.
belatedness is sometimes blessedness. unless it's a reprieve from a death sentence, or the house payment, belated is just as good as non-belated. better even, because the person cares enough to risk censure by calling attention to their belatedness, in order to carry through with the thing anyway

- it's never too late to pick up mandolin, miss nelly. i knew a fella in boston who took up cello in his 70's. liked to play mozart, as i remember. he was also interested in ghosts.
sometimes i like to play "paranoid" in 3/4 time. (if you play guitar, try it. i play it in D.) i always thought a mandolin is just what the tune needed. there's actually something very shakespearean about black sabbath.
i can suck melancholy out of a song, as a weasel sucks eggs. more, i prithee, more.

- Wishing Sem a late happy birthday.
Wishing I knew what to bring to Sarah's party in June (weekend after Hayley's birthday party).
Wishing there was a screen door at our sliding glass door, so that I could open the place up better and get some of that beautiful weather in here.
Also hating potty training the two year old. I think this is the absolute worst part of early childhood. The worst possible thing to go through. Worse than the "terrible two's" or not being able to communicate with them, or talking back, or drawing on the walls. Worse than apnea monitors, or homework in Kindergarten, or teaching their ABC's. Potty training is early childhood hell, and here's wishing it will be over before I completely lose my sanity.

Carl Sagan is:
- ... Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there - on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors, so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light.
Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.
The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand.
It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known.

THE TIME FOR THE POLICE STATE WOULD HAVE BEEN _BEFORE_ THE ATTACK ON THE WORLD TRADE CENTER, NOT AFTER.
BUSH SENT CHENEY OUT ON TALK SHOWS TO SAY B.S. LIKE SUICIDE BOMBERS WILL BE WALKING AROUND HERE LIKE THEY ARE IN ISRAEL. ALSO THINGS LIKE "IT'S NOT A MATTER OF _IF_ . . BUT WHEN TERRORISTS WILL ATTACK. AND CHEENEY (AS HE IS CALLING HIMSELF NOW) IS SPREADING THE BULL CRAP THAT IT IS NOW.

Im also grumbling about a certain band manager thats giving me a hard time about buying my god damn photos.
GOD DAMMIT, don't you realize once these are on the web they can be copied, snatched, printed, made into tee shirts etc....??? Fucknuts I need to protect myself and as long as you are claiming the imagery (i.e. i can do nothing but put them in my portfolio and show them to friends) then fucking pay me to take the god damn risk to put them on the fucking internet.
In my limited experience, band managers are just as the stereotype paints them out to be. Weasily, dorks with pot bellys and loafers with no real life of their own scamming on chicks in hotel bars.
