AND,...i don't like the french, who seem to have forgotten that we helped to liberate them from the germans with whom they are now siding. i guess that their economic ties to iraq are more important than their sense of right and wrong. you know, they resemble the people who live here in the nation's capitol. here, a driver will stop and hold up a line of traffic that has the right of way to let someone out of a driveway. try to pass that same person on the highway and he/she will do everything possible to prevent you from doing so. it's all about appearing to be "nice" when the object is to be in control. i can't think of anything more deceitful.
so, what do we do about iraq? the usa, as the only nation to ever deploy a nuke, needs to stand back and make sure that every "i" is dotted and every "t" is crossed, so that the rest of the world agrees that this asshole needs to be stopped. being arrogant will only give the french more fuel for their fire of righteousness.

"Hasn't Iraq opened all its doors without conditions? At a time when Israel rejected any form of inspection over its nuclear facilities, aren't many justified to wonder also whether there are double standards? ... Those who are beating the drums for war make no secret of their objective -- which is not disarming Iraq of its weapons of mass destruction. Had they really been seeking the elimination of Iraq's weapons of mass destruction, they would have done so by supporting the work of the inspectors and granting them enough time to accomplish what they were set out to do."

- and, sem, i wish i could find something to smoke. the conflict between the jews and the other inhabitants of the middle east has been going on for at least 5000 years. don't you think that the people of iraq view themselves as an ancient and mature civilization and laugh at a 226 year-old country that would dictate behavior to them? i'm not saying that sadaam is a good guy, but isn't there some way that we can get rid of him and still show some respect for the iraqui people? we like to say that we have no quarrel with the people of iraq, but do we ever say anything about the importance of their culture and the need to preserve it?

Sure it's easy to say there's always been conflict in the Middle East. Point out one region of the world that's been settled as long that hasn't been in conflict between different groups.
Well, besides Australia before the white people showed up.
It's silly to think that there is some huge through the ages rivalry with one group on one side and everyone else on the other side. Sure, history was written like that, but remember who writes history...
