I would think crutches and wheelchairs occupy a relatively small portion of the "abandoned objects" segment of street photography. The "abandoned objects" meme includes bicycles, baby strollers, umbrellas, and the more ephemeral genre of Faded Signs for businesses that have long since disappeared.
My interpretation of abandoned crutches might be considered cynical, even with its edge of optimism. I imagine that these crutches were used by able-bodied panhandlers looking to earn more sympathy dollars from passers-by who do not question the genuineness of their apparent handicap. The crutches are discarded at day's end, and the panhandler walks away on perfectly healthy legs.
